What's a GetchaSketch? Before computers, commercial artists drew sketches for layouts that were used to sell things. The fashion retail industry was especially honed in the craft, idealizing their subjects to glamorize the product. GetchaSketch does the same thing. Using your photo, we create a real piece of artwork, done in the advertising style of the '70s. The sketches are real art, individually done, on 100% rag marker paper, with absolutely no Photoshop or filters. A rough line drawing from your supplied photo is used as a base for the finished product. The loose style and technique are great for mellowing imperfections and age.
How does it work? Pick a picture of yourself, loved one, pet, favorite food…virtually anything can be done as a GetchaSketch. Next, submit your deposit on our order form and upload your photo to our secure Dropbox. Upon verification of deposit, a line drawing of the photo will be done by hand, then used as a base for the final sketch. Color will be applied with marker, detail will be rendered in colored pencil and accents will be added with pastels to complete your-one-of-a-kind GetchaSketch.
What are the photo requirements? Photos should be full color and scanned at least 300 dpi. They should be saved as .jpg or .pdf.
Can I send photos from the web? Unfortunately, web resolution does not afford the detail needed. However, photos taken with your phone are fine. Be sure to send them as actual size.
Can I send a photo in a Microsoft document? We get asked this a lot. Microsoft Office documents, including Word, Excel, and Powerpoint embed photos in a way that results in an appearance that is too grainy for us to do an accurate drawing.
Can I send a photo print? We prefer electronic submissions, but exceptions can sometimes be made. Please contact us and we'll discuss it with you.
I can't decide which photo to send. Can I send more than one? Yes! You can upload up to two photos at a time. We'll contact you and decide together.
How long does it take? Generally, the process takes 1–2 weeks.
What size are they? Each sketch is 8" x 10". They are done on 100% rag marker paper and will fit many ready-made frames.
How much does it cost? Single images are $120; double images are $200. A $20 deposit is required to start, and will be applied to the final cost.
Will I get to see my GetchaSketch before I make the final payment? Yes. A low-resolution proof will be sent to you when your sketch is done.
What if I don't like my sketch? Before we start, we listen to you. Are there things you want highlighted, changed, minimized, taken out altogether? Our pre-consult covers these and any other concerns. GetchaSketches are one-of-a-kind, custom artwork. Because the artwork is made with permanent markers, pencils and pastels, it cannot be changed. If you are unhappy, we can repeat the process. Because we price low, a new sketch will require a new payment.
Do you provide electronic files? Yes. Upon request and final payment.
